The Town of East Fishkill comprises the hamlets of Fishkill Plains, Hillside Lake, Hopewell Junction, Hortontown, Gayhead, Pecksville, Shenandoah, Stormville, Wiccopee and Lomala. Originally part of the Town of Fishkill, it was formed in 1849. The name "Fishkill" is derived from 2 Dutch words of "vis" meaning fish and "kill" meaning stream.
 
Once a rural community it is now a township of over 26,000 and growing. Located at the southern most tip of Dutchess County it has easy access to North/South commuting on The Taconic State Parkway and East/West passage by Interstate 84.
 
IBM is one of the areas largest employers with a large plant near I-84.
 
Educational Facilities
This diverse community is serviced by a number of school districts: Arlington, Wappingers including St. Columba (K-8th grade), Carmel and Pawling.
 
Recreational Facilities
The town of East Fishkill has a wonderful 60 acre recreation park offering tennis, basketball, baseball, volleyball, football, a roller rink, roller hockey program and skate park. Take a hike through the woods on the two marked trails, walk/jog on the 3/4 mile walking path or relax in the gazebo overlooking a beautiful stream. In the summer months there is a summer camp program and there are summer evening concerts in the park. The town sponsors "East Fishkill Night" events at local attractions at affordable rates. The East Fishkill Golf Center offers miniature golf, a driving range and batting cages. Beautiful golf courses are in several sections of town offering various degrees of challenge and beautiful settings. The East Fishkill Community Center is a cheerful place for senior activities, nutrition programs and meetings. Red Wing Park is a 17-acre park. A beach fronts an 8-acre spring-fed lake. The facility includes a bathhouse, first aid, concession stand, sports, playground, fishing, swimming, picnic area and a pavilion. The Route 52 Recreation Complex is the home of the East Fishkill Soccer Club and has nine soccer fields.
 
Houses of Worship
Hopewell Junction has 2 Catholic churches, St. Denis and St. Columba which offers private elementary school K through 8th grade. In addition, it is also home to Mt. Zion, Beekman & Bethel Baptist Churches, Episcopal Church of the Resurrection and Community Church in Wiccopee.
